Originating from their Milton, West Virginia studio, known for innovative glassmaking since the 1930s, this vase is a beautiful example of American art glass, perfect for adding a touch of vintage elegance to any decor.
Blenko Glass Company, founded in 1893 by William J. Blenko in London, England, began with a focus on creating high-quality stained glass.
William immigrated to the United States in 1909, initially settling in Kokomo, Indiana, before moving to Clarksburg, West Virginia, in 1921, where the company established its roots.
The company shifted to producing handblown glassware in the 1930s under the leadership of William’s son, William H. Blenko, to meet the demand for affordable, artistic glass during the Great Depression.
Blenko gained prominence for its vibrant colors and innovative designs, collaborating with designers like Winslow Anderson and Wayne Husted.
The company became a staple of mid-century modern decor, producing everything from vases to tableware.
In 1953, it moved to its current location in Milton, West Virginia, and has since been known for its artisanal approach, with each piece still handcrafted.
The Blenko family sold the company in 1969, but it continues to operate, preserving its legacy of American glassmaking.
Today, Blenko remains celebrated for its historical contribution to art glass and its ongoing production of unique, handmade pieces.See
