Antique Hachli Persian Rug, Brown and Red With Geometric Patterns – Rug & Kilim

Description

Made with hand-knotted wool circa 1910-1920, this 4×6 antique Persian rug of Hachli provenance is an exciting new addition to Rug & Kilim’s curations of this celebrated weaving tradition.

On the Design:

Designers and admirers of the craft alike will immediately recognize the quiet majesty of this grand Hachli rug. While it is not uncommon to see this protective symbol in abundance it is unique for the weaver to cast it in these quadrant-based diagonal falling patterns; depicted in consistent, rich hues of tangerine red, beige, black, and azure blue between the highly stylized geometric floral frame in beige. This distinguished pattern plays well into the mirrored border style, though the tribal geometric tree of life symbols offers a unique deviation from typical Persian wrapping borders for a very storied aesthetic. This beautifully aged piece exemplifies the refined aesthetics and elegant scale that have come to define the best of 20th-century Persian weaving. R&K Principal, Jahanshah Nazmiyal, regards this as a particularly beautiful example—its finer weave and delicate drawing setting it apart from many of its contemporaries. This level of artistry, especially on a scale as generous and versatile as this, is increasingly rare and highly coveted among curators today.
